Bacon Sandwich with Caramelized Onions

This mouthwatering Bacon Sandwich (Bacon Butty, to my British friends) is slathered in BBQ sauce, topped with caramelized onions, and served on a a pillowy soft bun.

  • BACON: we use Godshall's Angus Steak Bacon
  • SANDWICH BUNS: we like soft hamburger buns
  • ONIONS: top the sandwich with CARAMELIZED ONIONS (see recipe below)
  • BARBECUE SAUCE: use your favorite store bought BBQ sauce
  • SMOKED GOUDA CHEESE: sliced smoked gouda cheese

Why this recipe works

Godshall's Angus Steak Bacon is made with premium cuts of Angus Steak and slowly smoked, producing out of this world flavor (without all the calories). And it cooks just like pork bacon, but with 50% less fat! We like it pan fried for this sandwich, crisped to perfection for ultimate flavor.

Instructions

  1. Place a large sauté pan over medium high heat and place bacon in pan.
  2. Cook bacon according to package directions, cooking until all bacon is cooked (slightly crispy).
  3. Place all cooked bacon back in pan. Add BBQ sauce, and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes.
  4. Divide bacon into 2 portions and place on each bun.
  5. Top each sandwich with equal parts caramelized onions.
  6. Top with Gouda cheese and top of bun.

How to caramelize onions

  1. Slice onions very thin.
  2. Place onions in sauté pan with 2 tablespoons of butter.
  3. Cook on medium low heat, turning often until they caramelize (about 15 to 20 minutes).
