Why This Shaken Gin Cocktail Works

When we're developing cocktails, technique matters just as much as flavor. This shaken gin cocktail is all about texture. Shaking the drink with egg white creates a silky, cloud-like froth and gives it a softer, more refined feel than built or batch cocktails. It's meant to be shaken fresh, poured into a coupe, and enjoyed right away.

The flavor leans floral and lightly aromatic, with elderflower and citrus highlighting the botanicals in the Empress 1908 Gin. If you like bright, effervescent drinks like our Empress Gin Fizz, this gin cocktail offers a completely different experience. It's smoother, quieter, and designed for sipping.

We reach for this cocktail when we want something a little more polished. It's great for holiday evenings or intimate gatherings. And if you enjoy visually striking Empress drinks, our Violet Femme Sparkling Purple Gin Cocktail is another go-to.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Tonic water: can't find Elderflower Tonic? Regular tonic water works well. Ginger ale adds a little extra sweetness, while club soda keeps things lighter.
  • Vegan: substitute 2 tablespoons of aquafaba (chickpea brine) for each egg white to create a similar frothy texture.
  • Garnish: we love a simple lemon twist, candied ginger or edible flowers make beautiful alternatives.
