Get out those glasses and salt the rims!! This naturally sweet and refreshing Pink Margarita is a favorite at summer gatherings, Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and happy hours everywhere! Like our Pink Señorita Cocktail and Pink Grapefruit Cocktail, this sweet and tart tastes just as pretty as it looks.

Serve it with: Chicken Street Tacos, Salmon Ceviche, Loaded Pulled Pork Nachos, Black Bean Quesadillas, and Fresh Pineapple Salsa.

Ingredients

  • TEQUILA: blanco (silver) tequila works best. We like Patron Tequila or Casamigos Tequila
  • TRIPLE SEC: (or any orange liqueur)
  • FRESH LIME JUICE: we prefer fresh squeezed lime juice
  • POMEGRANATE JUICE: we prefer fresh pomegranate juice for its light taste and color, but you can use bottled pomegranate juice (like POM)
  • AGAVE NECTAR: for natural sweetness, or use a splash of simple syrup
  • KOSHER SALT: for the salted rim
  • LIME ZEST: grate from the limes you are juicing for the rim
  • POMEGRANATE SEEDS: pomegranate arils make a pretty accent to this cocktail

  1. Zest the Limes: Before juicing your limes, use a zester to remove just the outer green skin and set aside for garnish.

  3. Mix the Salt and Lime Zest: Mix kosher salt and lime zest in a shallow dish big enough to dip the top of glass in.
  4. Rim the Glass: Using a lime wedge, wet the rim of the glass and dip glass into salt and zest mixture.
  5. Fill Glass with Ice.
  6. Pour: Strain the margarita mixture over ice, add more lime zest and pomegranate seeds.
  7. Garnish with lime wheel.

  • Tropical: add a splash of coconut water or pineapple juice.
  • Salt and Sugar Rim: substitute sugar for lime zest for a sweet and salty rim.

FAQ

What is a pomegranate margarita?

A pomegranate margarita is a refreshing cocktail that combines the tart and sweet flavors of pomegranate juice with traditional margarita ingredients like tequila, lime juice, and triple sec or Cointreau. It's a vibrant and delicious twist on the classic margarita.

What type of tequila is best for pomegranate margaritas?

A good quality blanco (silver) tequila is best for pomegranate margaritas. Blanco tequila has a clean, crisp flavor that pairs well with the tartness of the pomegranate juice. We like Patron Tequila or Casamigos Tequila.

How do you get the PERFECT PINK color?

Use fresh pomegranate juice instead of bottled (it's not as dark!). Simply cut a pomegranate in half and use a juicer or squeeze the juice out by hand, straining out the seeds.

How do you get the most amount of juice from a lime?

Roll the lime on a hard surface before juicing. It brings the juice to the surface!

Can I use sugar instead of agave nectar?

Absolutely! simple syrup, honey, or stevia works for this recipe. Adjust the amount to suit your taste.
