What is a Coronarita?

A Coronarita is a frozen margarita mixed with Mexican beer (usually Corona or Modelo). It's tart, boozy, and super refreshing.

We first discovered this genius combo in Mexico (like our Pink Señorita). Keith ordered a Coronarita, and after a brief pause, the bartender grinned and said, "Ah, you mean an Iceberg?" He blended the margarita, poured it over beer, and just like that, we were hooked.

It's salty, citrusy, and totally crushable on a hot day. Add a Chile Lime rim for a spicy kick, and pair it with Pulled Pork Tacos or our crowd-favorite fresh Pineapple Salsa for the ultimate fiesta.

  • TRIPLE SEC: orange flavored liquor is key to a good margarita
  • LIME: fresh squeezed lime juice
  • ORANGES: fresh squeezed orange juice

🍹Top tip

Serve Immediately: wait to mix the cocktails until you are ready to serve. Iceberg Margaritas taste best when they are fresh and ice cold.

Instructions

  1. Blend Margarita Ingredients: In a blender, combine ice, tequila, fresh lime juice, triple sec, orange juice, and simple syrup. Blend until slushy.
  2. Rim the glasses: Rub rim of 10 ounce glass with a lime wedge to wet. Place Chile Lime Seasoning (or salt + Tajin) onto plate. Invert rim of glass onto plate to coat.
  3. Add beer: Pour 6 ounces of beer into the glass. Then slowly pour blended margarita onto top of beer (the margarita floats on top of beer to resemble foam of beer).
  4. Garnish: Garnish with lime wedge and enjoy.

FAQ

What is a Coronarita made of?

A Coronarita is a frozen margarita mixed with beer-typically a crisp Mexican lager. Ours combines tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and cold beer for a bold, refreshing cocktail.

What's the best beer to use in a Coronarita?

Light Mexican lagers work best-think Corona, Modelo, or Pacifico. They're mild and slightly salty, which balances the tartness of the margarita perfectly.

Can I make a pitcher of Coronaritas?

Yes! Multiply the ingredients by 4-6 and blend in batches. Keep it chilled in the freezer, then stir in beer just before serving to keep that bubbly finish.

What glass should I use for a Coronarita?

A large margarita or pint glass works best. If you're going the classic route and flipping a mini beer (Coronita) into the drink, use a schooner-style glass with a wide opening.

Simple Syrup recipe:

  1. ½ C sugar and ½ C water heated over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Cool and store until needed.

Notes

  • To make simple syrup: heat ½ C sugar and ½ C water over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Cool and store until needed
  • Use fresh squeezed lime juice: bottled lime juice does not measure up. Fresh lime is best, plus that lime wedge looks great on the margarita glass!

  1. We love them too....a good shortcut is to just use frozen concentrate lime aid (fill empty container with tequila) and add beer....Corona of cousre! A trick that I've learned is to make a pitcher of the the mix and add the beer as you're severing. This way your marg is nice and bubbly!

    1. Thanks for the tip Jim! This sounds like a great shortcut... will definitely be trying that idea ourselves....
